latest results

I haven't blogged in a few weeks, but some of my recent results are a win at rayne lodge with 71lb, a win at arrans lake with 120lb, a terrible result in my fishomania qualifier! My bills tackle team won our 1st round in the knockout cup. And ive had a couple good days where i didn't quite manage enough, like last weeks match at rayne lodge where i weighed 102lb which i struggled for, to miss out on the section by 3lb! although im sure that's nothing on what Grant Albutt must be feeling after his 8th second place finish in a fisho qualifier. I hope when he finally qualifies he doesn't finish 2nd in the final!

I shall try get back into the blog with weekly catch reports.

Reece.

  1. hi reece, interesting blogs on fennes, used your methods for a club match win at hill and black ealy in year, now a few tips for hobbs croft this sunday (10th nov)wouldn't go be appriecated, carp or silvers?

  2. Hi Andrew,
im glad my blogs came of use to someone! i haven't done them for a while and have been trying to find the motivation to do them again, maybe this will spur me on no i know they have been of use!
personally if i was fishing hobbs this week, i think there may be the odd carp caught but not in many numbers, and silvers will play a part. my personal prefereance of peg would be to draw 75,76,77,80,81,84 any of these pegs could win your match, obviously any peg can win but id bank on these pegs throwing a few more fish up. if i was to draw 75, 76, 77 (or anywhere along this bank) i would aim to catch skimmers on pellet at about 11 meters, i would set up a small method or pellet feeder, and also a bomb rod. also not ruling out chop worm and caster a couple of meters away from the bank to one side as perch feature in matches from now and over winter on this lake, there are some big stripeys along this bank (mainly in 80/81 which i will get to) feeding for the skimmers i would personally feed one ball of groundbait the size of a satsuma with a few micros in, i would feed a cup of chop worm and caster down to the fishiest looking side for perch, you can get away with being tight up against the bank in 76 area as it is deep and has shelter for the perch with trees etc. I would then chuck a bomb out with pop up bread for 15minutes and hope it goes round! after that you will just have to see whats happening, see what you can catch and where. if the carp feed you may be able to fish the method/pellet feeder but most likely bread will score best.
if i was to draw 80/81 i would be happy with this, although you dont have much of a tip chuck its still worth a little go, but my main approach here would be chop worm and caster under the tree, you only need to fish about 2/3meters away from the bank in about 4foot of water under the tree, there is an obvious gap you will see to fish. you will catch roach/ perch and if you lucky snag some carp early/late if they feed. i would also set up an 11m pellet line incase there are a few skimmers about.
no anywhere on the next bank from 83 onwards i fish for roach, im the only person that seems to do this, but you can catch them fishing a top kit to hand, in my last 2 matches ive had 31lb and 34lb of roach on this line. they are stamp fish when they come, and all i do is feed and fish caster, i have tried worm in a slop but it just seems to bring small fish. although its worth fishing chop worm and caster maybe 3 meters from the bank to one side as you may snag some perch, also the carp may have a sniff late if your lucky. i also fish a long pellet line here, normally 13 meters as its shallower, but 11 if its comfier for you. also these are probably the better pegs fro fishing the feeder, so pop up bread may score, or a method/pellet feeder to the island. generally you catch carp early and late on this lake so if you get an early carp unless they keep coming dont sit on it as you could be missing out on valuable silvers. although on the day you dont know whats going to be your best line so just keep an open mind. if you draw in the 60s which are on the left hand bank, yet again a bomb with bread or method/ pellet feeder will be good to the islands or open water. also skimmers can be here or roach, all depends on the day as it never seems the same to be the same on this lake. i would expect a good bag to be maybe 15lb of silvers and 2 carp to go with it, so a weight of 30lb could be very good. if the carp have a go you may see a weight of 50lb or so. otherwise if they dont feed then 20-25lb of silvers could win. if the carp dont feed id expect peg 80 and 83 to do very well with silvers. 80 is the best perch peg on the lake and ive had over 20lb before.

  3. the key on this lake is to keep getting bites, it doesnt matter what your putting in your net, if you keep putting fish in your net you will frame!
if i was fishing this lake this weekend and i had enough notice to get it, i would put 10 balls of joker in at 6meters and you will catch roach on catser on top of that all day. this is a great lake in depths of winter as we catch 20lb of roach from any peg fishing 10meters or so with joker, its fantastic. although someone normally snags the odd carp to mix things up.
one last thing, if its a bright sunny day and you see carp cruising, you can mug them on a pellet waggler, despite it being cold, if you can see them you can mug them is the rule on this lake. personally i dont have enough rods and reels in order to set this up aswell as a bomb and a feeder, but i would set one up once ive started fishing if i could see fish cruising. although the chances are they wont be, just keep your eyes out!
good luck, it should be an enjoyable match.
    hope you win!

    1. hi Reece,
thanks for all the info on hobbs croft, but I didn't do it justice, only managed to put 12lb 8oz on the scales, finishing in third position, 10lb of the weight were Perch caught down the edge on chopped worm ,something I probably would not have tried without the info. Did lose 3 carp late on so I've only got my self to blame. Top weight as you thought came from some one snaring 2 carp for 22lb (big fish).Skimmers decided not feed on day worst luck.. Lake still suffering the effects of the recent storms full of branches, gave up counting how many twigs i pulled out, pity you can't weigh them in! Never mind it was still a nice day beats working for a living, all the best Andrew

  4. glad my tips helped you abit! i reckon its the cold rain during the week and the first signs of frost just knocked them down a peg. once the weather settles it will fish better, glad the perch are on the feed though! what peg was you on?
i was fishing stepfield at colemans on sunday and that fished hard. found a few though to make something of it!
ive got winterleague on stepfield next week then winterleague at blind lane the week after then a teams of 4 match at the fennes i think. looking forward to the next few weeks despite the weather! cold weather just means more chance of silvers framing which is what i enjoy doing!

  5. not sure what peg number was, it was 3 swims from the end of the right hand bank, with the hill and black road behind me, it had a willow tree laying half in the water, please don't tell me this was the flyer or i'll scream. That was our clubs last match this year, we go again in march, I didn't do bad this year, fished 6, won 3, 3rd on sunday and the other 2 well we won't talk about them (total mares at rayne lodge bottom lake and tylers common horseshoe lake 13lb & 65lb respectively)
all the best for your league Andrew

    1. Sounds like peg 80, a good winter peg once it cools off abit more and those perch shoal under that tree! Is say you done well on the day in the conditions. Well done on your recent results. Rayne bottom can be a funny place so would be to downbeat on that one. Tyler's I've not fished but I have a match there on 8thdecember for a winter league. Any tips? Also what club do you fish with?

    3. fishing with north weald angling society at moment, not to sure about tips about tylers commen never fished in winter and by looking at the weather forecast it going to get cold, only thing i do know is when i had that 65lb it included 40lb of skimmers and roach, had 4 roach over the pound all on maggot down the edge, worth thinking about if carp dont show, but someone will find carp they do hang themselves there
